Sreymom
Sreymom
TGC’s newest student, Sreymom, is already contributing to our community with her energy, intelligence, and spunk. She is showing quick, thorough progress as a student, establishing a firm grasp on the basics of English and exercising every opportunity she can to practice her new skills with the volunteers. Her exuberance is boundless, her spirit indefatigable. She challenges her teachers with a lively independent mind, never content with mere answers to questions but instead demanding an encompassing explanation of the material at hand.
Before TGC, Sreymom lived with her family (of which Sokmao Bin, a current TGC student of 4 years is a member) in Kandal Province. She attended school until the third grade, when mounting pressure to financially support her family forced her out of school and to the streets selling vegetables. Now she has the opportunity to invest in her future through education while still supporting her family. Sreymom is uncertain of her career aspirations at this point, but with the intellectual dexterity and infectious spirit she has displayed in her first 6 months, she is certain to succeed given the proper tools.
Outside of class, Sreymom’s spark and warmth for others makes her a valuable part of the social life at TGC. She has quickly bonded with the younger students, having developed a strong network of friends in only 6 months. During weekly soccer matches, she will unhesitatingly leap into the fray amongst opponents much older and bigger than her, not only holding her own but relishing the opportunity of such a challenge. People tend to underestimate Sreymom, given her size and age. Whether in the classroom, at the wood house, or on the soccer field, Sreymom quickly proves herself: a bright young woman, full of vigor and passion for life that runs deep and strong despite a difficult upbringing.
